Real Madrid prepares to inaugurate the Santiago Bernabeu stadium after upgrading

There have been numerous renovations and additions made to Santiago Bernabeu Stadium since it was formally opened in 1947. The stadium’s capacity was first raised from 81,000 to 125,000 after an expansion in the 1950s. Extra amenities were also added to the stadium in preparation for Spain’s 1982 hosting of the World Cup.

Hardly any renovations were made to the yard after the 1990s. When the stands behind the goal area were replaced in 1998 with stands that included seats, the field’s capacity shrank.

When will the renovations at the Bernabeu stadium be finished?

Florentino Pérez, the president of Real Madrid, has proposed a comprehensive renovation plan to transform the Santiago Bernabeu into the world’s most advanced stadium, fit for a variety of uses. In September 2018, during a meeting with management, his offer was accepted with a 575 million euro capital investment.

June 2019, not long after the season ended, saw the start of the stadium renovation. The original schedule called for the Bernabeu stadium’s rehabilitation to be finished and operational in late 2022 or early 2023.

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on Real Madrid’s new stadium’s completion. Prior to that, the team had wanted to open the Bernabeu stadium on December 15, 2022, which is the 75th anniversary of the stadium’s opening. However, the new stadium’s opening date had to be temporarily rescheduled due to the lack of progress in building and the 2022 World Cup.

As of this writing, Los Angeles has scheduled the new stadium’s completion for September or October of 2023.

December of the same year will see the stadium’s opening ceremony, which promises to bring together a number of celebrities and sports luminaries to usher in a new era for the Royal Spanish squad.
