One of the top players in the league may soon return to the Angels.
Early in July, the Angels learned tragic news when center fielder Mike Trout’s wrist ailment was discovered to be a broken hamate. Since then, Trout has been injured, and the Angels have fared worse without him.
The Angels have gone 16-22 since Trout left a game against the Padres on July 3, falling from a three-game lead to a seven-and-a-half-game deficit in the AL Wild Card.
Now that it appears that Trout will be ready to return soon, fans can start to get excited.
Trout was “getting real close” to being ready to play again, and on Saturday morning and afternoon, he was taking swings to determine if he would be able to participate in one of the Angels’ two games against the Tampa Bay Rays.
Trout was finally advised against appearing on Saturday, it was ultimately decided.
According to him and the doctors, he is near, Angels manager Phil Nevin. “It’s almost to the point where we can come close to saying ‘day to day,’ but today’s not the day.”
Trout was enjoying a good season prior to getting hurt, but it wasn’t quite up to the high standards he has set for himself. Trout hit.263 with a.862 OPS and added 18 home runs over the course of 54 games.
Trout’s comeback for the Angels cannot come soon enough as the Halos are fighting for their playoff lives. The Angels have done nothing but fall in the standings after firmly stating that they were contenders at the trade deadline and making the difficult choice not to move Ohtani for a potential record-breaking prospect haul.
The Halos will be off on Sunday and possibly Monday, depending on how Hurricane Hilary affects the region.
