Real Madrid will look to recoup €48 million from the sale of defender

The future of Ferland Mendy, a defender for Real Madrid, is still not clear. The 28-year-old left back had a terrible 2022/23 season, which was full of problems. The Frenchman did not look his best even when he was in shape.

Real Madrid now has questions about how long he will stay at the club, and reports say that the big clubs in Spain’s capital are ready to sell him this summer.

AS (via Madrid Xtra) says that Real Madrid wants to get back most or all of the €48 million they paid Olympique Lyon to sign him in 2019.

Since joining the team four years ago, Mendy has slowly taken Marcelo’s place as the left back. He is now a regular part of the Real Madrid defense on the left side.

Even though his manager Carlo Ancelotti still loves him and wants to keep him next season, the Merengues’ management does not agree.

Saudi Arabian teams are reportedly interested in the 28-year-old player, so Los Blancos hope to take advantage of the situation and get back the €48 million they spent on him four years ago.

Even though Mendy has ties to the Middle East, his lawyer recently played them down, saying:

“What is going on with Saudi Arabia and Ferland Mendy? No, nothing is there. Every morning, they tell the public about new players who can play in Saudi Arabia. Soon, Mbappé will be in Saudi Arabia, then someone else.

“Nothing is there. Saudi Arabia wants all of the best players, end of story. It’s not right. He’s at Real Madrid, so everything is fine.”

Mendy’s deal with Real Madrid runs out in 2025, so if they don’t sell him now, they won’t be able to get a big fee from selling the left back. So, it remains to be seen if the Frenchman will actually leave or if he will stay put.
