After losing 8-3 to the Boston Red Sox on Friday night, the New York Yankees’ losing streak reached six games, the longest such skid in franchise history.
The Bronx faithful wasted no time in voicing their displeasure with the squad after another loss, this time to their bitter rivals.
Social media users were equally vocal in their displeasure, demanding that the team fire manager Aaron Boone and general manager Brian Cashman.
With tonight’s loss, the Yankees’ record dropped to 60-62, putting them in last place in the American League East.
While Boone has recently encouraged his players to “figҺt and compete” in an effort to go on an unexpecteԀ run and preserve the season, fans have called them the “most gutless group” on social media. No more seasons of this, please. DON’T TRY TO. What you learn throughout the offseason is crucial. The need to replace Cashman and Boone is obvious, as one fan put it.
There is absolutely no room for doubt at this point. Boone must be replaced immediately. Cashman must be replaced immediately. To conclude the season, the students need to come up and try it for themselves. And the offseason is the time to start fresh. “Enough is enough,” wrote yet another frustrated Yankees supporter.
One commenter urged Boone to stop shrugging off the blame for the Yankees’ unexpectedly bad stretch of play.
I hope Boone will accept responsibility for the Yankees’ dismal performance this year, they complained. I don’t know if he’s done it yet this year, but this is exactly how you lose people’s respect: by making lame excuses. The stronger squad ultimately defeated you. It doesn’t seem good when people stoop to such a level.
A second supporter chimed in, saying, “This is the most gutless group of individuals ever assembled,” which essentially endorsed the group. After the game, Boone will hand out milk and cookies while proclaiming, “It’s right in front of us!”
At the same time, someone questioned Boone’s qualifications as a manager and cast doubt on the former Yankees star’s abilities.
The subject of Aaron Boone’s qualifications as a major league manager remаins unanswered. “Could you please advise,” they pleaded.
Boston won behind strong pitching from Brayan Bello and a three-run homer from rookie Masataka Yoshida (who also drove in four runs) in the first four hitters of the game.
In his first three at-bats, Justin Turner went 3-for-3 with a pair of RBI singles. After a fielding mistake by New York second baseman Gleyber Torres, Boston scored three runs in the bottom of the second inning on an RBI single by Alex Verdugo.
Verdugo has noted that the series’s beginning was successful because “just to kind of step on the throats instantly was a good tone setter.”
The Yankees have lost six in a row despite Aaron Judge’s two-run homer off Garrett Whitlock in the eighth inning. This is their longest losing streak since dropping seven in a row from September 4-10, 2021. After beating the Angels 11-6 on August 31, New York went two games under.500 for the first time since they were 57-59 on September 1, 1995.
It’s aggravating and upsetting, Yankees manager Aaron Boone said. I’m frequently asked similar things, but my standard response is, “Keep going, and do everything you can to not give in to that, and do your best to fix it every day.”
Yoshida’s changeup into the seats in right center field gave the Red Sox a 4-0 lead 19 pitches into their game against rookie Jhony Brito (4-6).
Because the PitchCom gadget was not functioning for the Red Sox, the Yankees were unable to use it, and Yoshida homered after the Yankees were charged with consecutive mound visits to go over signs.
Manager Alex Cora of the Boston Red Sox noted that the equipment was malfunctioning in the bullpen and that it may do so again on Saturday.
“Interesting timing of that right there and not an ideal situation obviously,” Boone said as the players prepared to throw out the first pitch.
After singles by Verdugo and Rafael Devers, Boston explоded for four consecutive hits before Yoshida’s 13th home run.
Yoshida scored seven runs and drove in four more for the Red Sox, giving him a total of twenty-seven RBIs in his career. In the ninth inning, Devers contributed with an RBI single.
“I think my swing is getting better, so I’m still working on it,” Yoshida said through a translator.
Bello (8-7) has won three of his last four outings, allowing only one run on six hits. For the second time this year, he defeated the Yankees by inducing nine groundouts and two double plays.
“I felt a little bit relaxed,” Bello stated through a translator. It was great, especially with a seven-run lead after two innings. My entire frame of mind shifted to focus on attacking the batter and getting out of the inning as soon as possible.
The only time the Yankees threatened Bello was in the fourth when he allowed hits to Torres and Billy McKinney in successive at-bats. Bello got Harrison Bader out on a ground ball on his following delivery.
The eighth inning ended when Whitlock struck out Giancarlo Stanton after surrendering Judge’s 23rd home run. Boston’s sixth victory in seven games against the Yankees was closed off by Chris Martin after Brennan Bernardino had started the ninth by allowing two hits.
In the third inning, Anthony Volpe singled and scored on DJ LeMahieu’s groundout to keep the Yankees from being shut out for the first time since September 2016.
