Isiah Thomas rips Michael Jordan for ‘crying’ during Bulls-Pistons rivalry days
Isiah Thomas, point guard for the Detroit Pistons, and Michael Jordan, shooting guard for the Chicago Bulls, were bitter rivals in the NBA throughout the late 1980s and early 1990s, and it appears that their animosity for one another has not abated in the least.
Thomas expressed his thoughts on the rivalry between the two teams and his sentiments about the Chicago Hall of Famer in a recent interview.”Every time you Һit him, he was crying,” Thomas reportedly told ESPN. “…meeting with David Stern at his office to discuss getting Һit.”During Isiah Thomas’ prime and the start of Michael Jordan’s great run, the Bulls and Pistons played each other multiple times in the playoffs. From 1988 to 1990, the Pistons eliminated the Bulls from the playoffs on three separate occasions. They used a strategy called “Jordan Rules,” which involved playing physically (Ԁirty?) defense against the Chicago star in an effort to disrupt his game.In 1991, Michael Jordan and the Bulls got their payback and won their first of six titles in the 1990s by eliminating the Pistons in the playoffs. Thomas and the Pistons infamously left the court in the crucial Game 4 of the series before the final buzzer rang, showing little class in defeat.
After 30 years, it seems the two NBA greats still don’t get along. It’s debatable if all of Thomas’s concerns are justified or whether some of them are motivated by envy of Jordan’s success, but it’s hard to see them making up any time soon.
