Journalist Robbie Savage for Mirror Football predicts that Gareth Southgate will most likely leave him off the team for the upcoming Euro 2024 tournament in Germany.

Earlier this month, the 30-year-old looked ready to leave United after his £30 million transfer to West Ham fell through. Now that means he’ll probably stay at Old Trafford, though it’s unclear how he’ll get to regular minutes.

The England international has improved under Erik ten Hag’s direction, moving up the central defense rankings to number 5, even behind left-back Luke Shaw. Regardless, he appears destined to remain United’s back-up, and concerns over his position on the national team are certain to surface.

Even though Maguire has participated in the last three major championships, England manager Southgate still has faith in him. But Savage believes his place in the Euro 2024 team could be seriously jeopardized with another restricted season on the horizon.

“The Southgate national team coach will be able to determine the chances of Maguire securing a spot in the England squad for Euro 2024 based on form if he joins the Hammers and plays frequently.

The Three Lions boss will need to decide whether to support a bridge if he is destined to be a backstop in United’s defense, which appears quite likely. The player either doesn’t spend that much time on the field or doesn’t. If Maguire staying at United is a risk,Southgate continuing to select him for England is also a risk.

The United manager has stated that he is pleased that Maguire is staying and competing for a spot this year. Ten Hag has specified exactly what the former captain must do to find a way to regain his form as they fight on four fronts this season and wants two players for every position.
