Hurricane Hilary Forces Postponement of Tampa Bay Rays’ Game Against the Los Angeles Angels

Because of Hurricane Hilary’s predicted path, MLB has decided to move Sunday’s game between the Tampa Bay Rays and the Los Angeles Angels to Saturday.

Games one and two of Saturday’s doubleheader between the Rays and Angels will begin at 4:07 p.m. and 9:07 p.m. ET, respectively, at Angel Stadium.

Those who purchased tickets for Sunday’s game will be admitted to Saturday’s earlier contest. The league has decided to keep ticket prices the same for the late game.

The MLB also rescheduled the Sunday matchup between the Miami Marlins and the Los Angeles Dodgers, as well as the Arizona Diamondbacks’ matchup with the San Diego Padres. On Saturday, both teams will compete in a pair of games, and ticket holders will be subject to the same rules.

According to the National Hurricanes Center, Hurricane Hilary is expected to make landfall early on Sunday morning somewhere in Baja California. In addition to heavy rain, severe gusts, and heavy waves, the storm is predicted to proceed north at rates of up to 100 miles per hour.

MLB games have been affected by weather before, not only Hurricane Hilary.

Hurricane Ian’s potential impact on a series between the Atlanta Braves and New York Mets in October prompted discussions about backup preparations within the league. In 2021, Hurricane Laura caused the Angels and Houston Astros to postpone a game, while in 2004 the Marlins and Cubs had a complete series postponed because of the storm.

This time around, the Rays and the Angels are on track to play in every one of their games due to extensive reshuffling on the part of the league.
