Corey Seager deserves AL MVP votes despite Shohei Ohtani’s impressive performance

The Texas Rangers have remained a consistent force throughout the season, securely holding the lead in the AL West over reigning champions, the Houston Astros. Bolstered by strategic moves during the trade deadline, including the acquisition of starters Max Scherzer and Jordan Montgomery, the Rangers’ prowess has been further underscored by their offense ranking second in the league, trailing only the Atlanta Braves.

One pivotal contributor to the team’s offensive prowess is Corey Seager, who showcased his impact with a stunning performance against the Los Angeles Angels. Seager’s two home runs and five RBIs on Tuesday night further solidified his role as a driving force within the team.

The focus of conversations regarding the American League MVP for 2023 has centered mainly around Shohei Ohtani, and understandably so. However, is it possible that Seager could potentially stop Ohtani from taking the title?

Brice Paterik, the host of Locked On Rangers, expressed this possibility, stating, “If this guy were healthy, he’d be on pace for an Aaron Judge-like season or an A-Rod at his peak type of season.”

Despite facing setbacks due to injuries, Seager has displayed remarkable numbers when in peak condition. His batting line of .351/.410/.666, complemented by 22 home runs and 73 RBIs in just 77 games, attests to his exceptional performance.

Notably, Seager has experienced a standout August, hitting seven home runs – his highest monthly total this season – while maintaining a batting average of .354 over 11 games.

Seager’s performance has been consistently strong throughout the season, with May marking his lowest batting average at .291. This remarkable consistency has positioned him as a formidable contender for the AL MVP title.
