Jalen Brunson, star of the New York Knicks and the United States national basketball team, was 9 for 9 from the field in a 98-88 victory over Spain in a World Cup tune-up game.

In the United States’ toughest test of the summer, Jalen Brunson led the way with a spectacular performance, shooting a perfect ten for ten from the field.

The U.S. defeated Spain 98-88 in a pre-World Cup preseason game between two of the tournament’s favorites, powered by New York Knicks point guard Kristaps Porzingis, who shot 9 for 9 from the floor on his way to a team-high 21 points.

The United States is ranked second in the world behind Spain in the FIBA rankings.

The United States outshot Spain 67%-71% from the field and 56% from beyond the arc.

With two more games to play before arriving in Manila for the World Cup, the United States advanced to 3-0 on its pre-tournament tour.

The United States has won all three games by a combined 27.7 points, with average scores of 101.3 (against Puerto Rico, 117-74, Slovenia, and Spain, 92-62).

The United States held a slim 73-72 lead heading into the fourth quarter, but scored seven unanswered points to close the game and win by 18.

Tyrese Haliburton, star player for the Indiana Pacers, dished up 12 assists in just under 22 minutes off the bench for the United States. It was his second game this summer with 10+ assists.

Forward Mikal Bridges of the Brooklyn Nets scored 12 points, and guards Brandon Ingram of the New Orleans Pelicans and Austin Reaves of the Los Angeles Lakers, and center Anthony Edwards of the Minnesota Timberwolves each scored 11.

Santi Aldama’s 14 points made him Spain’s highest scorer. There were 13 points scored by Willy Hernangomez, 12 by Alex Abrines, and 11 by Juancho Hernangomez.

The United States will play Greece and Germany in its final two pre-World Cup games this coming weekend in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

On August 25, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Japan will host the opening ceremonies for the FIBA World Cup. On August 26, the United States will begin their World Cup schedule.
