Good news: Yankees’ DJ LeMahieu set to return to lineup after calf ιnjury

Unless something comes up at the last minute, the Yankees plan to have DJ LeMahieu back in the lineup on Monday to start the series against the Braves.

On Sunday, LeMahieu missed his fourth consecutive game with stiffness in his right calf.

He declared himself fit to play, but the Yankees gave him an extra day of rest before the series finale against the Marlins.

“In my mind, I was ready to go today,” LeMahieu said before the Yankees were blown out by the Marlins, 8-7, at loanDepot Park. So Monday, barring any unforeseen developments today.

Since Wednesday, when the veteran infielder first felt his calf “grabbing” on him when he took swings in the cage, he has been out.

However, things have “calmed down,” as LeMahieu put it, allowing him to complete his pregame workouts on all three days of this weekend’s games.

After a long slump, LeMahieu was hitting.309 with an.824 OPS in his previous 23 games until he experienced the setback with his calf.

Everything is really frustrating, he added. The outdoors is where my heart is. It’s important to me to be seen and heard.

Jake Burger, a third baseman for the Marlins, Һit.500 (7-for-12) in the series and Һit the game-winning single in the decisive game on Sunday, off of Tommy Kahnle.

Manager Aaron Boone stated he did not consider intentionally walking Burger to set up a double play when he came to the plate with runners on the corners and one out in a tied game (with Bryan De La Cruz advancing to second base on defensive indifference on the first pitch to Burger).

Boone advised against using the walk-in strategy with [Jorge] Soler up next.

On Saturday, Carlos Rodon threw his first bullpen session since straining his hamstring last week; this week, he will travel to Tampa to pitch a simulated game at the Yankees’ player development complex.

If things go well, Rodon may be ready to return from the disabled list on August 22 against the Nationals.

On Monday, the Yankees will face a Braves lineup that has just finished annihilating the Mets, so they will have their work cut out for them.

Boone referred to them as “a heavyweight.” They have a fantastic lineup, that much is apparent. Several me𝚗 in the thick of exciting campaigns. This is perhaps the best оffensive strategy you’ll encounter. Our task will be cut out for us if we go there.

In the top of the eighth inning, assistant hitting coach Brad Wilkerson was removed after Anthony Volpe struck out looking at a pitch that may have clipped the strike zone. … A total of 100,001 people attended the three games, making it the most-watched Marlins series at loanDepot Park.
