Following their remarkable triple last season, Pep Guardiola’s City team are once again the overwhelming favorites to win the Premier League in May going into the curtain-raiser.
The champions’ Friday night matchup against newly promoted Burnley, who are managed by City great Vincent Kompany, presented a potentially challenging situation.
In front of a jam-packed Turf Moor, City wasted no time seizing control of the game as they got off to a fast start.
And after just three minutes, City had taken the lead as midfielder Rodri headed the ball across the area for Golden Boot winner Haaland to push home.
With 10 minutes left before halftime, Haaland struck again with a flawless finish inside the penalty area to give City a 2-0 lead.
The Norwegian created an ice-cold celebration in front of the fans after scoring his second goal of the evening.
He’s barely been involved in the game, yet he’s got two goals, remarked Jamie Carragher, a former Liverpool and England defender, while providing commentary for Sky Sports. He regularly does that. Burnley simply lost focus on the opposite side. Haaland doesn’t even look at the objective; he simply knows where it is.
“With just one touch, I reached the top corner. He is currently the best goalscorer in world football because of this.
Burnley has been extremely unlucky to be 2-0 down and not have scored, he said. There is no one of the same caliber as the one on the other end.
Although they played some nice football, Burnley and Kompany found themselves two goals down to the Champions on their Premier League debut.
