Liverpool are set to break the British transfer record to land Moises Caicedo after agreeing a £110m deal with Brighton that sees them leapfrog Chelsea in the race
Liverpool will smash the British transfer record to land Moises Caicedo in a £110m deal, according to reports.
The Brighton midfielder has been looking to leave the Amex this summer and Chelsea had looked like his most likely destination. The Blues eventually bid £100m for the Ecuador international, but were outdone by the Reds, who tabled an extra £10m.
Caicedo is now heading to Merseyside for a medical with personal terms expected to be a formality, according to the Athletic. Liverpool, who have already added two new midfielders, will shell out a fee that exceeds the current record paid by a British club.
Enzo Fernandez’s move to Chelsea in January had held that record, but the Reds are now set to spend big to land a marquee target as they attempt to get new faces in following a major overhaul at Anfield that has seen the likes of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho leave unexpectedly.
Close to £100m has already been spent on Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai as Jurgen Klopp looks to bolster his ranks after a disappointing campaign last time out, which saw Liverpool miss out on the Champions League. Southampton’s Romeo Lavia, who is valued at £50m, has been the club’s key target for weeks, but they’ve since diverted to the Seagulls star.
Caicedo had pushed for a Brighton exit back in the New Year when Arsenal were keen, but stayed put and signed a new deal. He’s made no secret of his desire to move to a top club and Liverpool have now presented him with that chance

The Seagulls, who have already sold Mac Allister to the Reds, qualified for Europe last term for the first time ever and had hoped to retain their defensive midfielder, but are poised to move him on for a huge profit just days before the season starts with the club realistic about the situation.
Brighton’s CEO Paul Barber has hinted he would remain on the south coast just days ago, but was wise to possible developments. He told Sky Sports: “For a young player like Moises at 21, he’s probably one of the best midfield players in the world already at his age, and we’ve had a fantastic time working with him. And we want it to continue, we’ve got him under a long contract. We’re also realistic to know there is interest in him.
