Jaren Jackson Jr., a standout for the Memphis Grizzlies, has assured fans that he and his teammates will be OK without suspended point guard Ja Morant.
The NBA has handed a 25-game suspension to Morant after he displayed a pistol during an Instagram live video, forcing the Grizzlies to play without their star player.
Without the 2020 Rookie of the Year, Jackson knows it will be difficult, but he is confident Memphis can find a way to succeed. In light of the upcoming FIBA World Cup, Jackson told ESPN’s Tim Bontemps, “We just gotta navigate it” before Team USA’s exhibition game against Puerto Rico on Monday.
“It’s no sеcrеt that Ja’s absence leaves a sizable void in our lives, but it’s not like he’s never coming back.”He will provide us with everything we need to achieve our goals.
Morant, who will turn 24 on August 10, has been suspended by the NBA for ‘conduct detrimental to the league’ and will miss the next 25 games.
During his suspension, he is not allowed to play for his team or take part in any public league activity, including preseason games.
As part of a three-team deal that also sent Tyus Jones to the Wizards, the Grizzlies were able to acquire Marcus Smart from the Boston Celtics.
In Morant’s absence, Smart will likely start at point guard for Memphis.
Jackson is looking forward to working with last year’s Defensive Player of the Year, with whom he has already been in touch.
We all know what he can bring to a team: passion, heart, and a wealth of knowledge. His head is going to be in the right place for the changing room and all that. Great augmentation, then.
While Jackson is concentrating on Team USA, the Grizzlies will open training camp in October.
The United States team finished training camp on Sunday, and Jackson appears to have won the starting center position.
Excellent, Jackson proclaimed. We are in the process of becoming acquainted. Neither of them has ever played with the other. Meeting new individuals is a necessary step. Everyone here has an excellent grasp of the game. We have excellent point guards, players, and coaches.
It has been enjoyable. We’ve been on a roll as a unit. The coaches were impressed by the level of enthusiasm and communication. Finally, we’re all set to leave.
