After an on-field altercation, Tim Anderson was given a six-game suspension.
After a violent brawl between the Cleveland Guardians and the Chicago White Sox, Jose Ramirez received a three-game suspension for his right hook on Tim Anderson and a six-game suspension for punching Anderson.
ESPN reports that Guardians closer Emmanuel Clase will also be sidelined for at least one game.
After what turned out to be one of baseball’s bloodiest figҺts in years, all three players were informed of their suspensions on Monday, just two days after the figҺt broke out at Cleveland’s Progressive Field in front of fans.
Both Anderson and Ramirez were fined an amount that was not made public. Both of these people are attractive.
Terry Francona, the Indians’ manager, and Mike Sarbaugh, the Indians’ third-base coach, have both been suspended for one game. The Chicago Bulls were also Һit with a one-game suspension for manager Pedro Grifol. Michael Kopech, a pitcher for the White Sox, and Gabriel Arias, a rookie for the Guardians, have both been fined an undisclosed amount.
On Monday, when the Guardians begin a four-game series against Toronto, Francona and Clase will begin serving their penalties. On Monday, when the White Sox visit the New York Yankees, Grifol will also be sitting out to serve his sentence. On Tuesday, Sarbaugh plans to take a seat.
The Guardians’ chances of catching the first-place Minnesota Twins in the American League Central are diminished by Ramirez’s absence for any length of time. Cleveland is 4.5 games behind to start the week.
After trading away some veterans at the trade deadline, the White Sox find themselves 23 games under.500 and looking ahead to next season.
The Guardians’ All-Star third baseman, Anderson, and the White Sox’s shortstop, Ramirez, fought near second base in the sixth inning, with Anderson landing a right haymaker to Ramirez’s chin and sending him sprawling on the infield dirt.
During the drawn-out brawl, players and coaches from both teams got involved. It took the umpires longer than 15 minutes to restore order and resume play. The final score in Chicago’s favor was 7-4.
Ramirez had just Һit an RBI double and was sliding headfirst into second base when things started to heat up. He had the nerve to try sliding between Anderson’s legs and seemed miffed after getting tagged hard. Ramirez stood up and confronted Anderson, pointing in the second baseman’s direction while second base umpire Malachi Moore attempted to mediate.
Anderson took off his glove and stepped into a boxing stance, challenging Ramirez to a figҺt. Ramirez landed a blind blоw, knocking Anderson to the ground, which prompted the opposing teams to participate in the scuffle.
Ramirez expressed his displeasure at Anderson’s behavior during the game’s postmortem.
Ramirez, speaking through interpreter Agustin Rivero, stated, “He has been disrespecting the game for a while.” That didn’t happen yesterday. This is an old piece. During the game, I even got a chance to tell him, “Don’t do this stuff. I find that quite rude. Don’t go labeling people like that; most of us are just looking for work to support our families.
Anderson tried again after getting to his feet to аttаck Ramirez.
Anderson was led off the field, but he returned a few minutes later to confront Ramirez before being forcefully dragged into the dugout by teammate Andrew Vaughn.
Sunday’s game was the last of the season series between the White Sox and the Guardians; they won’t play each other again until 2024.
