After a weekend of subpar base running, GIANCARLO Stanton is making headlines for all the wrong reasons

Even after a 3-1 victory over the Houston Astros on Saturday, all anyone could talk about was how bad Stanton was.

Following a double down the left-field line off of ace pitcher Justin Verlander, Stanton found himself on second base.

Later, when DJ LeMahieu Һit a single to center, Stanton was thrown out at home after seemingly making little effort to cross the plate after lazily nearing third.

Before Sunday’s game, Boone admitted, “Wasn’t a great look. “But other than that, it’s just him being careful not to endanger himself given the number of issues he’s had with his lower body over the past few years.

The Yankees didn’t end up needing the insurance run, but the right fielder’s effort made headlines.

A dismayed supporter tweeted, “Embarrassing effort.”

I’d put him on the bench,” said a second. Unacceptable.”

To which a third party remarked, “That’s the ‘I already got my money’ trot.”

A fourth person then chimed in, “Bum.”

Stanton didn’t even try to slide for the run after being confidently waved home by third-base coach Luis Rojas.

Boone proceeded to defend his player, saying, “I think it’s been years now where he’s just making sure that he doesn’t want to — from a lower-body standpoint — put himself in any jeopardy.”

Stanton suffered a hamstring strain while steаling bases in April and missed the next 43 games.

Over the past few years, Stanton has also suffered with left quadriceps strain, right ankle inflammation, and left Achilles tendinitis.

After Stanton Һit a single later in the game, the Yankees decided to substitute him into the game.

“He tries to get into that gait to where he’s not putting himself in a weird spot where he’s having to decelerate or move,” Boone said, dismissing the notion that he warns the star fielder to be careful on the bases. He endeavors to assume that relaxed posture. But he decides to do it on his own.

According to me, “I think he does have that feаr of putting himself in a bad spot.”
