Shohei Ohtani has been named the AL Player of the Month for the second month in a row

Two-way standout Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Angels has been awarded the American League’s Player of the Month for July, MLB announced on Wednesday.

Ohtani has now earned this honor for four consecutive months, having previously been chosen in June and July of 2021. On Monday, the 29-year-old was also honored as the American League’s Player of the Week.

Ohtani batted.282 with nine home runs and 14 RBIs in July across 23 games. In four starts, he threw 25 1/3 innings, went 2-2 with a 4.97 ERA, and recorded his first career no-hitter at the major league level.

As August began, Ohtani still led the majors in home runs with 39, one more than he had at this stage in the 2021 season, when he had already won the AL MVP title.

Chicago Cubs outfielder Cody Bellinger won the National League award after batting.400 with eight home runs and 24 RBIs in May.

Shohei Ohtani Receives Major Award After Another Dominant Month

Another important honor has been bestowed upon Shohei Ohtani.

Ohtani, who had a monster month in July, was named the American League’s MVP on Wednesday.OPS of 1.152 on a batting average of 282 with 9 HR, 14 RBI. Cody Bellinger, an outfielder with the Cubs, won the National League title while he took home the American League trophy.

Ohtani won Player of the Week to end the month of July, so it’s only fitting that he also wins Player of the Month for August.

Ohtani’s performance was so impressive that the Angels decided to go all in on acquiring players at the trade deadline.

He kept it up on both sides of the ball and, towards the month’s end, had arguably his best game of all time.

The Angels played two games against the Detroit Tigers on July 27.

Ohtani threw his first career shutout in the opening game of the doubleheader, allowing just one hit over eight innings. Then, in game two, he went deep in his first two at-bats before leaving with cramps.

That alone would have earned him Player of the Month honors, but he also turned up a number of other stellar efforts that contributed to his recognition.

Ohtani, you deserve every bit of success. He will, without a doubt, add another MVP trophy to his collection if he stays healthy this season.
