Amid the Michael Jordan vs. LeBron James discussion, Stephen Curry offers a surprising perspective on the GOAT conversation
Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors has been called the best shooter in NBA history, yet he has refused to choose between LeBron James and Michael Jordan as the best player of all time.
Curry was a guest on NBC’s Sunday TODAY show, where he was interviewed by Willie Geist and asked about his thoughts on the best shooter, best defender, and best player of all time.
I subscribe to the theory that there are several undisputed all-time greats. Attempts to draw parallels between different time periods are fraught with difficulty. Curry added, “It’s also unfair to compare Michael to LeBron by placing him in a different period.
Although Curry doesn’t explicitly favor one superstar over the other, he acknowledges and appreciates both players’ contributions to the sport.
“It’s a great barbershop debate and something that will never stop until the end of time,” he said.
RECOMMENDED Even though Curry displayed his modest side in the conversation, he has forever altered the game by popularizing the three-point shot. The number of three-point tries has climbed by 2.6 times since 2000, according to data from RPubs, although it didn’t start rising until he joined the NBA in 2009.
This season, Curry will rejoin a Warriors team that has undergone significant upheaval after trading away Jordan Poole for seasoned veteran Chris Paul. In order to gain revenge for their playoff defeat to the Los Angeles Lakers and beat the defending champion Denver Nuggets, they will have their work cut out for them in the competitive Western Conference.
