Karl-Anthony Towns, Al Horford headline Dominican Republic’s FIBA World Cup roster

When the FIBA World Cup starts in August, Dominican Republic will have some big names on its team. This is because the country announced that big man Karl-Anthony Towns of the Minnesota Timberwolves, center Al Horford of the Boston Celtics, and guard Chris Duarte of the Sacramento Kings will all be in the event.

Towns is, without a doubt, the best player on the team. He is without a question the best player on the team, and everyone is hoping that he can help Dominican Republic get out of the group stage and into the knockout rounds.

At the FIBA World Cup, the team will be in Group A with Angola, Italy, and the Philippines, which is the host country. Italy, who has a long history in international basketball, is the team that Karl-Anthony Towns and his team will have to worry about the most if they want to make it to the knockout rounds of the tournament. But it’s important to note that Team Italy won’t have any NBA players because Paolo Banchero chose to play for Team USA instead. Dominican Republic could also have a hard time because Angola and the Philippines will be playing on their home courts. Jordan Clarkson, a guard for the Utah Jazz, is also likely to play for the Philippines. But with three NBA players on their team, it’s easy to see why Towns and his country are the favorites to win the group stage.

During the FIBA World Cup, a lot can happen, but nothing is for sure. Still, with the team they plan to bring, it’s not hard to be positive about the Dominican Republic’s chances.
